Dear family and friends
I'll take a little detour today to talk about another one of my children for a bit, because today really belonged to Austin. Today he earned his bachelor of science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Southern California, and is now an official Trojan Alumnus. He wanted to go to USC his entire life, and he did. Now, in the words of the dean of the Viterbi School of Engineering, he and his fellow engineers "have completed the most rigorous and most challenging course of study at the university." We are so very proud of Austin and the work that he completed today. Here is a picture of Austin and his proud parents, and another of all of us including his girlfriend, Xixi.
The day was also a bittersweet one. After 6 years and two students, we no longer have a built in excuse to visit campus, other than to replenish my supply of t-shirts! The time has rushed by, and there is no way to turn the clock back. So ready or not, here we go into the next phase of our life with Austin, now more as observers. We've been practicing that for the last few years – one of the gifts of the college experience.
Grayson, the first of our Trojan children, went to the movies tonight, and has not returned at the time of this writing. We will all have to wait until tomorrow to see what exciting film he saw.
In honor of the USC Class of 2010 and all members of the Trojan family, I will close tonight a little differently.
Fight On!
Brant
What a day of fulfillment! Congratulations to Austin and his girlfriend and you parents who saw it all the way through.
