Day 274 – Grayson’s Journey

Dear family and friends

Grayson had a good day today – one with no behavior problems. He spent some time after dinner tonight at the park watching a pick-up soccer match with his residential assistant (RA). He seems to enjoy watching the activity while sitting quietly on the park bench. When I spoke with him tonight, he was snuggled in bed and listening to one of his audio books.

This morning marked the 9 month point since Grayson's injury. He has recovered much of his physical capability, and for that we are grateful. It is tragic that his cognitive abilities are so severely challenged. It is easy to slip into wishing for what might have been, but that path is no longer an option. We continue rejoice in Grayson's successes and pray that he will continue to maximize his quality of life. We are approaching a crossroad in our lives – preparing to bring our son home to care for until we are no longer able. The Lord has provided much for us these past 9 months. We trust that he will continue to care for us as we are about to embark on this new adventure.

Pax!

Brant

  1. The road we have walked prepared us for the road we're on now. In all your postings, there have been few (to no) comments about difficulties Grayson has had with the simple acts of mopping the floors and doing the laundry. I know many "capable" people who couldn't do what he can, who would have had horrible problems re-learning--frankly, learning for the first time--those skills. Who knew that all those years in scouting, and then in the theater, would have prepared him precisely for where he is now?

And now, the road today prepares us for the road tomorrow. No point in worrying about the twists that road will take--but if we meet it with a smile, which gift Grayson clearly already has, the bumps will be lighter and we'll enjoy the ride. As best we can, at least... and really, "as best we can" is the best any of us can do.

Thank you for nine months of news! (And the Prep family who follows the journey thanks you too!) We look forward to anything you want to share, and we're in your corner.

    Be well!

  2. As a member of the Prep family I echo everything that Robert says (and if Grayson would like, I have a bathroom that needs some cleaning :)
