Day 40 – Grayson’s Condition

Dear family and friends

Merry Christmas to all! Today was a good day.

Today was good, but all family traditions went right out the window. The rib roast is still in the fridge, along with all of the side dishes. The presents are wrapped, and are sitting by the place that the Christmas tree is traditionally located at our house. The stockings were stuffed and by the fireplace, but this year the individuals opened them up as they were home and available, instead as a group over coffee first thing in the morning. The meal and the gift exchange will happen, just not on Christmas day. I am sure it will be before the Feast of the Epiphany, the date of the first Christmas gift giving. The disappointment that each of us felt in giving up our traditions this year was small compared to the joy we have that Grayson is still with us and improving.

Regina was at the hospital all day Christmas Eve, coming home for maybe four hours before being called back at 4:00 AM. Grayson was restless, and the staff was having difficulty handling him. I relieved her at 2:00 so she could go home and get some rest, and am spending the night tonight.

Grayson's sister, brother and brother's girlfriend came by and visited Grayson today. His brother pushed Grayson around the floor in his wheelchair. Here is a picture of them on their "rounds", and another of Grayson smiling for you. Notice the festive hospital clothing Grayson is wearing. He wore that hat for a solid two hours!

As Christmas day winds to a close, it is our greatest wish that all of you that have been so kind and supportive of us during this difficult time be rewarded just as richly as you have blessed us. May the joy of the miracle of the birth of Jesus remain with you throughout the coming year.

Merry Christmas!

Brant and Regina

  1. Ours was a slightly different Christmas as well, with most of the crew in Idaho it was far quieter here than we are accustomed to. We enjoyed a small family get together, and dessert at our house . . . where we tuned in via computer to see how those we are thinking of (you and yours) were doing. Your posts make us all stonger each day. Thank You. Love you all, hang tough each and every one, and Grayson, rest assured . . . you have the best Yell Squad on your side that a guy could wish for. May 2010 be just the thing for us all. xoxo

  2. I still can't believe the progress that has been made in this last week! Every day we check in and update our prayers for you all. Seeing the clip of "My Fair Lady" brought back memories of grins we shared as the boys were on stage that night. With this rapid progress, we can't help but indulge in more hope than we thought possible. May the God of hope, who sent His best in Jesus keep you richly.
    Love,
    Robin G.

  3. Everything you tell us about Grayson is fantastic news. Clearly, there is a great deal that is "going right." Understanding and then following directions, humor with the traffic cone, returning affection--these are all signs that neurologically speaking, something is very RIGHT. Every day brings him a step closer to a world that's rich in already-existing solutions for people with motor challenges. And as for the weight-loss problem--once they can get him off the feeding tube, childhood-favorite home-cooked meals will eradicate that particular issue in very short order. As my Chinese herbalist likes to say, "little by little." You'll make it through this!

  5. Hi Brant and Regina:

Those images are priceless! That smile tells me to "look out"!

How blessed it is to see this time of progress, and to celebrate it for all that it is. And to celebrate this Season of Grace and Love at the remembrance of the gift of all gifts.

From our clan to yours, may the improvement just keep on a coming, and may His healing continue to be at work in Grayson, to the utter most.

    In Him,

    Doug
